The premier credential within the hazardous materials management community is the Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM). A network of over 9,000 active professionals have earned the CHMM credential.  The CHMM program has four basic principles:

1. Provide a recognized credential for professionals involved with hazardous materials
2. Promote professional development through continuing education, peer group interaction and technological development.
3. Transfer knowledge and experience regarding hazardous materials among professionals and organizations.
4. Provide government, industry and educational institutions with a mechanism for identifying hazardous materials management professionals.

The EHMM Course

The Essentials of Hazardous Materials Management Course (formerly called the CHMM Overview Course), along with the CHMM “Hazardous Materials Management Desk Reference, 2nd Edition” book will provide a comprehensive review of environmental laws, regulations and applicable health topics designed to assist individuals in preparing for the CHMM exam.

Who Should Take The EHMM Course?

All individuals who have duties or responsibilities related to management of hazardous materials and environmental, health and safety responsibilities will benefit from this course.  You do NOT need to be a CHMM exam candidate to take the EHMM Course.  You do NOT have to take the EHMM Course to sit for the CHMM exam.

Documentation for Recertification

EHMM Course participants can request a certificate of course completion to document their attendance.  Current CHMMs approaching their recertification cycle will earn 1.5 CHMM Recertification Points by completing the EHMM Course.

Faculty

The EHMM Course is taught by Environmental, Health & Safety professionals in the fields of business, education and industry.  Most if not all of the instructors are CHMMs.

Course and Exam Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites to take the EHMM Course.

There are, however, prerequisites for taking the Examination.  Applicants who meet the following standards are eligible:

• Attainment of a baccalaureate degree in a subject area related to hazardous materials management or engineering and 3 years of related experience.

Exam Information

All exam candidates must file an application with the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management  (IHMM)  at least six (6) weeks prior to the exam.

An application fee of $125 must be included with the exam application when submitted to IHMM.
